Abstract
162,969. Hartley, F. S., and Trewern, W. F. July 2, 1920. Tobacco pipes.-Relates to non - return valves for preventing the back flow of moisture into the stem and bowl of the pipe, and consists in the particular arrangements shown on the drawings. Fig. 1 shows a rounded valve 5 drawn into the end of the bore of the mouthpiece 2 by a light coiled wire spring 1<1>. In Fig. 2 a wire 9 is hooked to a valve 5 and a spring tongue 10. In Fig. 6 the valve is closed by the tongue and an adjustable nut, threaded on the rod 9, bears against a washer 10<1> formed with annular slots. Fig. 7 shows a mouthpiece 2 with upwardly directed bores leading into a chamber 12 closed by a cap 13. A ball valve 5<1> rests loosely on one bore. In Fig. 9 a ball valve 5<1> is pressed against a tubular seat by a coiled spring 16<1> adjustable by a nut on the screwed rod 9.
