jects in view as will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides vin certain novel features ofconstruction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinaftermore fully described and claimed.
In the drawing--` The ligure is a vertical section through the flusher portions being shown in elevation.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the casing A is formed in two sections 1 and 2. The section 1 is open at its upper end and provided with an annular flange 2 lWhile its bottom endis provvided with a cylinder 3 that projects slightly into the section 1. An inlet nipple 4 is communicated with the section 1 and preferably formed integral therewith as is indicated in the drawing. `Section 2 of the device is provided; with a rusto-conical i portion 5 which forms a valve seat.v The` portiony above this valve seat is smaller in diameter than the portion therebelow and `an youtlet nipple 6: communicates withy the up-per or smallerportion. A reduced threaded extension 7 is situated on the upper end of the *section 2 rand has `disposed therein packing 8 which is held .in place by the gland 9. A cap k10 is provided Awith .a threaded portion for engagement with the `extension '7 and is lprovided with a reduced bore adjacent its threaded portion so as to formthe shoulder 11 which bears against the gland 9 and holds the` packing ,8y in place.
A valve stem 12 `is disposed longitudinally .ofthe ,C21- Sing `Aextending also through `and beyond the cap l0.` The lower portionv of this ystern 12 Ais threaded 'and a valve 13 is mounted'on the lthreaded portion being held in place bythe jam nuts 14 so that its relative position on the rod may be adjusted. i
This (valve 13 is ladapted toseat upon the wvalve seat formed by the frust-o-conical portion.- A plunger 16d is mounted on the flower ,end `ofthe rodH being engaged with the threaded portion thereof and a setscrew 29 is mounted underneath the plunger.
This plunger is adapted to reciprocate in the cylinder 3 and; is provided with a crevice or channel 17. A compressible coil spring 18'is `disposed about the stem 12 and rests upon the gland 9. The upper end of this spring is engaged by a sleeve 2O threaded on the upper end of the stem 12- and movable through the cap l0. A suitable knob `or handle 21 is mounted on this same end of the stem 12 on top of the rsleeve 2O anda set screw 23 is threaded in the end thereof for engagement with the end'of the stem'.- Then it` is desired to operate the llusher the stem is depressed by engagement with the knob 21 thereby releasing the valve 13 from its seat so that 'the water may flow through the casing A entering through the nipple 4 and departing through the nipple 6. The pressure of the water will have a tendency to close the valve-and to prevent the valve from closing -too quickly I have `provided the aforementioned plunger which will greatly retard the closing of thev valve and in fact will retardl it for a suliicient length of time sothat ample water may pass through the easing A. It is preferable that the plunger 16 have the crevice 17 in order that the movement of the valve will not be too greatly retarded. The spring 18 with the aid of the water pressure tends to close the valve; and retains it closed lwhen the device is not beingused. The tension of this spring may be Varied by longitudinal movement of sleeve 20 and thus the speed with which the valve 13 on the stem l2 may close can be regulated. The device iseasily assembled and the sections 1 and 2 may be easily disengaged from and assembled with each other it being noted that section 2 is provided with a flange 25 adapted to be fixed to the flange 2 by screws 26 andk I prefer that a gasket 27 be disposed between these langes 2 and 25. The nipple 4 is constructed with a threaded wall flange-28. Although I have described my invention with a degree of particularity it is to be understood that numerous changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the inveniton as hereinafter claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claiml as new is In a tlusher of the class described, a casing provided with a valve seat, a valve associated with the valve seat, a reduced eX- ternally .threaded extension on the casing, a valve stem attached to the valve and eX- tending through the extension of the casing and therebeyond7 said extension provided with an internal shoulder,` packing on said shoulder about said valve stem, a gland disposed on said packing about said valve stem and provided with a iange resting on the upper end of said extension, a cap having an-internally threaded portion for receiving the extension of the casing and provided with a reduced bore extending longitudinally from the internally threaded portion so asto form a shoulder adapted to engage the gland and hold it and the packing in place, said stem extending through the reduced bore of the cap, a spring disposed about said stein and resting on the gland, and a sleeve threaded on the stem for tensioning the spring, the outer end of said sleeve being in the form of a knob and a set screw threaded through the knob in the sleeve to engage the end of the stem.
In testimony whereof I alli); my signature in presence of two witnesses.
