Abstract

162,332. Weyman, J. E. Dec. 16, 1919. Atmospheric gas burners.-In an atmospheric burner for blast furnaces, producer, coke oven, and like gases, the gas is admitted at the end of the burner and a governor actuated by the gas supply pressure as described in Specification 122,890, operates shutters or valves covering primary and secondary air openings. Fig. 1 shows a burner in which gas is admitted through a valve K and gas nozzle H and primary and secondary air through openings F, A in a primary air chamber E and the burner body B respectively, a mixing-chamber D being arranged in the body B. The primary and secondary air shutters L are pivoted on spindles M and are operated through links N and levers O by a rod S connected to the governor mechanism. Fig. 3 shows a modified construction of burner in which the primary air chamber is eliminated, and the shutters L are operated through levers N<1>, links O<1> and arms R<1> by a shaft S' connected to the governor mechanism. The shaft S' may also operate the weighted gas valve K through a link O<2>, a pin and slot connection V<2>, a lever W, and an arm V in such a manner that. on the air ports approaching the fully open position, a further rise in the gas pressure moves the valve towards its closed position.. In a further modified construction, the primary and secondary air openings are in different planes.
