Abstract

160,998. Richardson, H. Jan. 23, 1920. Tipping-apparatus.-A car-unloader, of the type in which the car is first tilted about a longitudinal axis, and may subsequently be tilted in either direction about a transverse axis, comprises a car-carrying bridge 3 tiltable longitudinally in either direction in its supporting-member 9, which is pendant from a longitudinal bearing 10 about which the turning moments of the complete load are approximately balanced. The car is centred and held on the rails 4 on the bridge by bumpers 48 at each end which are normally beneath the rails, but, after the car has been run on, may be raised and moved inwards, being guided by suitable guide surfaces 49, 60 and grooves 56, and actuated by a rotatable shaft 78 having opposite screw-threads at its ends with which nuts 83 on the bumpers engage. The supporting member is tilted by toggle links 36, 37, 38 actuated by a. wheel 35 driven by a motor through reduction gearing 71. The bridge is tilted on rollers 14 relatively to its supporting- member by a link 28 actuated by a motor through reduction gearing connected to the end 27<a>. The gearing is secured between plates 22 pivoted to the bridge at 18 and having a sliding engagement with the supporting- member at 27. The discharge takes place into a hopper 90, secured to the bridge and provided at its lower end with a brush 88 contacting with the sides of a hopper 8 into which the hopper 90 discharges.
