Tread bands.-A tread band comprises a series of flat plates b with inwardly directed radial lugs b<1> engaging the sides of the peripheral portion of the tyre a. The lugs are interconnected by metal link plates c, each rivet d serving to connect adjoining links and a lug. The end links are joined by bolts comprising a sleeve e and screw f, Fig. 6, the whole being locked by a wire g. Hoops h of strip metal in circumferential grooves on the head of the tyre may be. provided to form a bearing surface for the tread plates.
