Abstract

502,238. Platform hoists. MULLER, W. Sept. 10, 1938, No. 26481. [Class 78 (iii)] Transportable hoists, having platforms connected to a base-plate by a linked parallelogram and raised by driving rollers into the angle between the inclined links and inclined surfaces on the base-plate, are constructed with curved inclined tracks of approximately cycloidal form to equalize the lifting effort throughout the whole range of the apparatus, thus enabling hydraulic power to be dispensed with in favour of a direct drive from a relatively distant electromotor, so that access to the underside of the supported load is facilitated. The electromotor (not shown) drives a chain wheel 16, which rotates the shaft 15 and also causes it to move axially to draw the shaft 12 forward and thus cause the links 11 to force the wheels 8 over the curved surfaces 7. Parallel wheels at the same time engage the links 3 and elevate the platform 2. Links 17 pivoted on the shafts 9 connect the wheels 8 to similar wheels at the other end of the platform. In a modification, the track 7 descends slightly after reaching its highest point, before the platform reaches stability in its raised position.
