Abstract

Barb, toothed, and like holding devices with lug or flange attachments.-Handles are fixed in the eyes of hammers, axes, brooms, &c. by a strip of metal barbed or toothed on one side to engage the wood of the shaft and inserted in the eye with one end projecting for bending over the head, the projecting end being thickened or stiffened. As shown the strip a has a sharp-edged projection c which is embedded in the wood of the shaft d. When the shaft is driven into the eye e of the hamer &c. head the thickened or stiffened projecting end b is finally bent over the head in the form of a hook, Fig. 3, or, in the caseof a broom or other head with a through shaft, is bent down at right angles on to the head In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the stiffened end f is formed by rolling the edges of the strip into tubular form on a wire core.
