Abstract
160,658. Lopdell, C. I. March 12, 1920. Clips, band.-Relates to a band clip of the type described in Specification 136,272, in which the ends of the band are gripped between a nut and a collar and the band tightened by means of a central screw bearing on a bridge-piece, and consists in folding the ends of the band inwardly between the nut and collar, the latter fitting around the former and gripping the ends of the band between its inner faces and the two chamfered sides of the nut. The nut 1 with plain chamfered side faces works on a screw 2, which bears on a bridge-piece 3 having slots 4 therein through which the band 5 is passed, the ends of the band being passed inwardly over a collar 6 fitting around the nut 1. One end 7 of the band may be permanently bent round one side of the collar 6. To prevent tearing of the edges of the band the sides of the collar may be arched upwardly or the chamfered faces of the nut made with an outward bend in the middle. In a further modification for use with joints of large diameter, one or more additional tensioning-devices are used, in which the screw 2 passes through a slot cut in the band 5, the collar 6 being dispensed with, or the hand may be made in two or more lengths, two or more tightening devices, as shown in Fig. 2, being employed.
