Separating by r o t a r y fitted plates. - A separator for separating mixed grains or other materials having different lengths but approximately the same diameters comprises a container 7 for the material to be separated and a number of plates 11 movable edgeways through the material in the container, the faces of the plates being provided with a series of pockets 13 adapted to receive the shorter material. The plates are preferably of annular form and are secured in pairs to spokes 12 to form a series of discs on the rotary shaft 9. The shorter material is carried up in the pockets 13, which are undercut as shown at 13<a>, Fig. 5, and drops from the upper part of the discs into inclined shoots 14 placed between the discs, preferably above the shaft 9. At their lower ends the shoots 14 deliver the separated material into the expanded hopper-like portion 15 of a spout 16. The mixture is fed into the container by an inclined spout 17, the longer material being discharged by a spout 18 at the opposite end. The discs are provided with oblique propeller blades 19 on their peripheries. The invention is particularly applicable for separating wheat from cats or from wild peas.
