Hopper-and - plunger machines; delivery; pressing p l u n g e r s; strain, preventing.-In a briquette press, the material is supplied to a hopper a and is forced by a ram d into a converging mould channel e formed of members e<2>, e<3>, yieldingly held together by members y, z, the mouth of the channel being temporarily blocked during the initial movement of the ram by a counter plunger y which is advanced by a cam l and withdrawn by a cam m or springs. The briquettes are detached by a blade r on a member s supported upon a lever q which is rocked by the backward movement of the plunger j; and are delivered to a counterweighted shoot t. To protect the edes of the briquettes, the plunger j may be hollowed or fitted with a cap j<1>, Fig. 4.
