Abstract

Relief devices; single-acting suction-valveless piston pumps; delivery reservoirs; valves, arrangement of.-In a pump for liquid comprising a barrel 1 of uniform cross-section throughout its length and a loose-fitting cylindrical plunger 2, the barrel is open at the upper end and the liquid enters at this end and passes to the lower end of the barrel through a space of definite width between the plunger and barrel. The liquid is delivered through a pipe 11 and a valve 13 submerged in a tank 12. A stop 16, which may be adjustable limits the lift of the valves. In a modification, the end of the connecting-rod 8 rests in a conical recess 18 in the piston, which is pressed against the rod by a spring 17.
