Rigid-jaw wrenches; wrench-jaw faces.-A spanner which can be used in either direction as a substitute for a ratchet spanner is formed with a box opening 1 of hexagonal form, the sides 2 being longer than the inclined sides, one of the si'des being formed with a recess 3 which permits a retrograde movement of the spanner without withdrawing it from the nut it is operating. In use, the sides adjacent to one end of the elongated sides are used for rotating the spanner in one direction, and the sides adjacent to the opposite end for rotating it in the reverse direction.
