Abstract

Rigid-jaw wrenches.-In a fixed jaw wrench of the kind comprising a straight jaw face and a plurality of jaw faces parallel to the straight jaw face and arranged to form a V-shaped notch adapted to coact with nuts &c. of different sizes, the steps joining the jaw faces progressively. increase in length from the jaw face coacting with the smaller to the jaw face coacting with the larger size nuts. The wrench shown comprises a shank 1 with two heads 2, 3 each of the latter having a straight jaw face 4 and stepped jaw faces 5 - - 8, parallel thereto. The steps 9, 10, 11 of the head 2 are of increasing length and about equal to the stepped jaw faces 6, 7, 8 respectively so as to grip both sides of the nuts at the corner equally. The steps 12. 13, 14 of the head 3 also increase in length but the stepped jaw faces 5 - - 8 of that head are all about the same length. The faces of the head 2 have a greater holding power on the nut than those of the head 3, the latter having an easier gripping action in the working stroke of the wrench and an easier release action in the reverse direction. The longitudinal axis of the wrench lies between the inclined sides of the V-shaped openings constituted by the sbraight face 4 and the stepped faces, and the lines joining the comers of the steps are parallel to the wrench axis.
