Flax - pulling machines.-The pulling- belts of a flax harvesting machine are driven through depending shafts connected to a transverse driving-shaft by driving-connections which permit the depending shafts to rock slightly. The pulling - belts a r e mounted in double and single frames comprising upper and lower angle-irons 19, 20, connected to shares or dividers 21. The flax is delivered to the pulling-belts 29 by toothed belts 26 driven by leather-covered pulleys 24 on the shafts of the large end rollers carrying the belts 29. The coacting faces of adjacent pulling-belts are pressed together by spring-mounted rollers 30 which are divided into two sets for each belt. Both sets are positively driven from a large roller 36 mounted on a depending shaft 37 and provided with two sprockets 38, 39 for the driving-chains 40, 44 which are covered by the pulling-belt and are provided with tighteners 43. The uppermost roller for each belt is not driven by the chain but is adjustable for tensioning the belt. Each shaft 37 fits into a square hole in a bevel-wheel 51 gearing with a bevel-wheel 55 on the transverse shaft 18. Integral with the bevel-wheel 51 is a sleeve 52 having a conical bore. This sleeve is rotatably mounted in a flanged bearing 53 bolted to the machine frame 10 and fitting into a casing on the angle-iron 20, in which it is secured by setscrews. This arrangement allows of each pulling- elment being removed as a separate unit.
