Abstract

158,319. Franklin, H. A. Oct. 28, 1919. Buildings and the like, and floors, cleaning.-In apparatus for cleansing ships, buildings, trains, or floors of the type provided with endless travelling or rotary brushes mounted in a casing supplied with cleansing fluid, the casing has an opening through which the brushes engage the surface to be cleansed, said opening being fitted with sealing-means making a fluid tight joint with this surface, means being also provided for admitting and withdrawing the cleansing fluid. A casing 1 preferably constructed of aluminium is fitted with an aperture sealed by a flexible joint 5 through which operate a rotary brush or brushes 2, a supply pipe 10 fitted with a spraying pipe 11 for admitting cleansing fluid, and an outlet 12, fitted with a jet 14 to assist the withdrawal of fluid from the casing by acting as an ejector. A water motor or pump 7, mounted on the casing and fitted with an extension piece 8 which forms a handle, is suitably geared to drive the brushes, the pipes 10 and 13 being supplied from the motor exhaust. The brushes are tensioned by springs 15, 13<a> and rollers 14. An electromotor may be fitted instead of a pump or wheels, geared to the brushes, may be fitted to the casing. If desired the brushes may be driven by manual or pedal-operated means. A solid cleansing material may be located in the casing in some cases, or a powder fed to the brushes.
