Abstract

158,016. Anderson, W. H. Aug. 27, 1919. Spray carburettors, in which the main air inlet and fuel or initial fuel mixture outlet are manually and simultaneously controlled, are provided with a cup or chamber the top edge of which is situated at such a height above the normal fuel level that no fuel can overflow under any working conditions. A tube 17 fixed in relation to the choke tube 11 and casing 1 has a nozzle 19 screwed therein and is increased in inner diameter and extended considerably above the top of nozzle 19 to form the chamber or cup. Fitting over the top of the nozzle is an inner tube 21 that carries a nozzle 22 extending into the induction passage 12. A reciprocable tube 9 is screwed at its upper end to engage a valve-member 10 which controls the main air supply and which is manually actuated through links 38, 40 and shaft 41. The valve slides over a tube 32 to which initial air is admitted by a pipe 33. The tube 9 in its axial movement controls the flow of fuel from the float chamber to nozzle 19. Air entering by pipe 33 passes upwardly to ports 35 in tube 9, then downwardly to ports 23, over the nozzle 19 and up tube 21, and taking up in its passage any fuel that may have accumulated in the cup. The air-pipe 33 may be fitted with a valve and filter. In a modified construction, the main air valve slides directly over the fuel nozzle the exterior of which is cut away to form a variable outlet for the initial fuel mixture, a supply of which for slow running issues through an axial duct in the nozzle. The main air valve is actuated from a. butterfly throttle valve, which may, however, be dispensed with. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 7626/13.
