Inking-apparatus.-An inking-mechanism for rotary duplicating-machines comprises an inkcontainer constructed in two parts consisting of a tray and a slotted cover secured together, an inking-roller carried by members in one of the parts, and means whereby the inking-roller imparts ink to a distributing-roller. As shown in Fig. 1, the ink container consists of a tray 6 and an M-shaped cover 7, both having flanges 19, 19<a> whereby they may be secured together by screws, &c. a rubber or like packing 20 being interposed between the flanges. A duct roller 9 carried by arms 11 pivoted at 12 within the cover 7 and pressed upwards by a spring 14 secured to the arms and to the cover, engages, in the operative or inking position, a distributing-roller 2 in contact with a perforated cylinder 1 to which is applied the usual pad and stencil, and in the inoperative position the roller 9 engages a concave slot 8 in the cover 7 so that the container is sealed, ink is prevented from spilling, and dust, &c. is excluded. In the operative position, the container is approximately horizontal and in the inoperative position inclined at about 45‹ so that the roller 9 is clear of the ink. The container is pivoted at 5 by lugs 16 to an arm 17 secured to the fixed cylinder shaft 18 and is lowered, raised, or retained in either position in any convenient manner. The distributing- roller 2 is carried by arms 4 pivoted at 5 and pressed upwards by springs if required. A suitable ink filling means 22 is provided, and scrapers 21 may or may not be secured to the cover 7. In the modification shown in Fig. 2 the duct roller 9<a> is carried by arms 11<a> pivotally mounted at 12a within the lower part 6<a>, and a spring 14a is fixed to a lug 15a on the lower part. The container is pivoted by a lug 16<a> to the arm 17.
