Abstract

157,474. Francart, H. Dec. 19, 1918. Tunnel furnaces; muffle furnaces.-In a tunnel furnace in which the goods are heated out of contact with the combustion products, the heating- flues are formed in hollow flanges 3 projecting from the walls. The air for combustion with gaseous fuel is drawn into the flange from the tunnel through openings 6. The spaces between the flanges may be connected by tubes 7 passing therethrough, and these tubes may be inclined upwards towards the entrance end of the oven to assist the longitudinal displacement of the gases within the tunnel. The flues may be con. nected together in a variety of ways, for example, in series, in parallel, or helically.
