Abstract

Alkali metal compounds, obtaining from complex silicates Potash is extracted from leucite and leucitic rocks by treatment, at elevated temperatures and pressures with milk of lime, magnesia or other strong base. The leucite, isolated from extraneous materials, is finely ground and agitated with a milk formed from the base, preferably lime, in an autoclave. The potash is dissolved and a mud results which on heating forms a cement. Potash not extracted by the base is recovered by volatilization during this second heat treatment.
