Abstract
In the manufacture of silica bricks, magnesium orthosilicate found in olivine and other minerals is added to the silica to form a bond. The mixture is moulded, dried, and burnt at about 1400 DEG C. The fired bond may be magnesium metasilicate formed by reaction of the orthosilicate with the silica. In an example, a raw mixture comprises 98 parts of quartzite and 2 parts of olivine.
