Ink-ribbon mechanism. - An endless-ribbon arrangement applicable to typewriters and like machines having a reciprocating platen, for example the accounting-machines described in Specifications 126,308, [Class 106 (iv), Indicating &c.], 149,285, [Class 106 (i), Calculating &c.], 149,286, and 149,287, comprises a friction drive for effecting the feed at each reciprocation of the platen, a slotted trough-shaped guide for directing the ribbon between the paper and the type, and a spring-retained roller for tensioning the ribbon. The ribbon supports are attached to a frame piece 8 of the reciprocating paper-carriage, and comprise two end brackets 12, 22 supporting the feed and guide rollers, and intermediate arms 55 supporting a trough-shaped guide 58 having a series of registering slots 61 in the two limbs corresponding to the series of type members. The ribbon is looped round the two end rollers 40, 33 and rides over idle rollers 37 which direct the doubled middle portion of the ribbon through the guide 58 The roller 40 is fixed and associated with a friction-feed roller 46 on a shaft 45 having play at its upper end against the action of a spring 47, the lower end carrying a ratchet-wheel 50 for actuation by a pawl 52 on the stationary framework. The roller 33 is carried by an arm 31 on a shaft 30 which is tensioned by a spring 35 to rock the roller 33 away from the roller 40.
