Typewriters and like machines.-The paper carriage of a printing adding-machine is made of great width and travel, and is provided with means for printing upon any portion of a long roll of paper for the purpose of adding-up and recording from day to day the hours worked by numbers of employers and readily calculating therefrom the wages due at the end of a month or similar period. The Figures show the apparatus applied to the adding-machine described in. Specifications No. 12,121, A.D. 1888, [Abridgment Class Registering &c.], No. 17,126, A.D. 1893, and No. 21,268, A.D. 1897, upon the frame of which side arms K, K<1> support the spindle L for a number of separated feed-rollers M, which are rotated by the pawl-and-ratchet mechanism and link-work shown as the pin-bearing arm X rocked at each operation of the main handle. To adjust the throw, two holes for the end of the link Q are provided in the arm R. Mounted in the same framework as this spindle are the two tracks A<1>, A<2> for the carriage, which contains the rubber-faced platen F with its adjusting-handles and pressure roller, and also, upon a framework g, h forming part of the carriage, the two reels i, k upon which the greater part of the paper sheet is retained, together with the guideplate K<2> and clamp for the sheet. Pulleys on these reels are connected by an endless band to produce equivalent motions of the sheet at both places, whether this is due to the feed-rollers M or to adjustment of either reel by means of the removable handle 0. The feed-roller spindle and the carriage tracks extend beyond the usual machine casing at each side.
