Abstract

107,341. Fenton, W. Dec. 27, 1916. Sheet-feeding arrangements; paper-carriages.- In sheet-feeding arrangements of the kind described in Specification 106,791, carriers for the original and the copy are adapted to be adjusted relatively in letter-spacing direction. Brackets N secured to the frame of the machine support squared shafts P, 0 which can be rotated by knobs X, X' respectively. The carrier for the original a consists of rollers D, E, the roller D being prnvided at the ends with bosses which fit the shaft P and support arms L connected by the roller E. The escapement mechanism of the machine controls a member connected to the arms L. The carrier for the copy b consists of rollers A, B, the roller A being provided at the ends with, bosses which fit the shaft Q and support arms M connected by a cross-bar C and the roller B. An endless band Y may pass round the rollers A, B. A rod S, passing through circular holes in the arms M and slots in the brackets N, is connected by links T to levers T<1>, Fig. 10, pivoted at Tx to the brackets. The levers T<1> are formed with slots in the brackets N. When the arms M are elevated, entries are made on both the original and the copy, but when the arms are depressed, entries are made only on the original, the cross-bar C then acting as a platen. By turning the knobs X, X<1>, the original and the copy can be line-spaced equal or different amount and the copy can if desired be spaced in the opposite direction to the original. When the arms M are in the depressed position, the two carriers can be adjusted to the left or right to cause the entries to be made at any selected points on the original and the copy. By moving the carrier for the original to the extreme left or right, entries can be made directly on the copy. Means, such as a rack F on the cross-bar C and teeth on the arms L, are provided for coupling the two carriers when the carrier for the copy is elevated. Ink-ribbon mechanism.-The copy b is inked by an ink-ribbon which is elevated to the printing- line when the carrier for the copy is elevated. The ink-ribbon is wound on spools G mounted on the arms L and passes along guides J which are suspended from the rod R and are connected by a bar K formed with a groove to receive the bottom edge of the ink-ribbon. Guide-rollers H are mounted in the guides J.
