I n d e x type-wheel machines; alining for impression.-In marking- machines comprising a vibratory printing-head provided with a number of type-wheels, the setting-device acts on the interior of the typewheels and is associated with means, acting on the exterior of the type-wheels, for locking all the type-wheels except the one with which the setting-device is in engagement. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the type-wheels 2 are rotatable in a sleeve 7 in the head 1 and are formed with interior teeth 11 for engaging a pinion 8 on a shaft 9 provided with a setting-knob 14, the shaft being moved longitudinally to cause the pinion to engage the selected type-wheel and being then rotated. To permit of the simultaneous setting of adjacent type-wheels, a divided shaft 9 provided with two pinions 8 and setting-knobs 14 may be provided. The looking-device consists of a bar 15 which engages recesses 16 between the types 6 and is formed with a bend 19 for clearing the two type-wheels that are in engagement with the pinions 8. The bar is secured to arms 17 which are loose on the shaft 9 and are engaged by collars 18 thereon.
