Abstract

Machines with reversed or positive types; pad inking-arrangements.-In machines in which the types strike the back of the paper, inking is effected by a pad of character dimensions which is moved automatically from impression position to an inking-device. In the arrangement shown, the pad 1 is secured to a roller 2 and is adapted to be turned from the impression position shown into contact with an ink-ribbon 19 passing over a guide-roller 15. The pad 1 may consist of a segmental or a sector-shaped block let into a roller; or a polygonal block of which all the faces are adapted to serve as pads. The means for turning the pad consists of a pinion 6 gearing with a pinion 4 on the roller and having an arm 7 provided with a pin 13 which engages the slotted end 12 of a link 11 on a lever 10 operated by the universal bar. After impression, the lever 10 is returned by springs 8, 9, 23, and the link 11 turns the pad into contact with the ink-ribbon. The ink-ribbon passes from a spool 17 over guide-rollers 14, 15, 16 to a spool 18, the roller 15 being carried by a spring-pressed lever 21. One of the guide-rollers may be arranged as an impregnating-roller in which case the ribbon need not be previously inked. The inking-device may consist of a pad or a roller.
