Abstract

155,660. Smith, W. Sept. 26, 1919. Cycles combined with self-laid tracks.-Relates to vehicles in which the load is carried by small intermediate or supporting wheels running on annular tracks carried by the main wheels, the supporting wheels being arranged in advance of the point of contact of the main wheels with the ground. According to the invention, the main wheels b, largely of ordinary construction, are carried by an axle b<1> which is connected to the body or frame of the vehicle by the rods j, the supporting wheels e being mounted on an axle f carrying the frame g on which the body a is supported by springs i. In the case of a carrier tricycle, as shown in Fig. 1, the sprocket k may be mounted either on one of the wheels e or on the axle f, which may be provided with differential gear. The wheels e run on L-section tracks d, Fig. 2, which may be made of indiarubber, carried by the rims of the wheels b.
