Abstract
155,171. White, A. E., (Wellman-Seaver- Morgan Co.). April 29, 1920. Doors.-Relates to apparatus for removing coke-oven and like doors bodily, and comprises modifications in the shock-absorbing connexions between the ram and the door-engaging parts, and in the means for pressing the door into position after it has been inserted in the door frame. The apparatus is mounted on a carriage so that it can be traversed along a row of ovens, and comprises a ram 12, on which is mounted by parallelmotion links 16, 17 a head 15 carrying the doorengaging hook 29. A spring 22 is interposed between the head 15 and the ram 12, and the arrangement is such that, in the normal position of the head, the links 16, 17 are inclined forwards, as shown. When, during the operation of the ram, the roller stop 47 contact with the door, the head moves backwards against the pressure of the spring 22, and is at the same time lifted slightly. The hook 29 is operated through enclosed gearing and a crank arm 39<a> from a motor 34 mounted on the head 15. A latch-bar lifter 41 is operated simultaneously with the hook 29. On replacing the door the stop 47 pushes the upper part home, and the yielding movement of the head 15 brings into operation a lower pressure roller 48 through the lever arm 17<a> and the spring-connexion 52.
