Abstract
155,165. Stamm, H., and Tucker, H. April 14, 1920. Ball or roller bearings.-Rings 9, 16, Fig. 1, of sound-deadening material are interposed between the race rings 3, 4 and the shaft 8 and frame 14 respectively, while rings 10, 17 of similar material are carried on the sides of the track rings. The rings 3, 9, 10 are secured against a shoulder 11 on the shaft by a sleeve 12 and nut 13. The rings 4, 16, 17 are secured in the frame by a plate 19 secured to the frame. The rings 17 extend to the sleeve 12 to retain lubricant in the bearing and to exclude dust. The sound-deadening material may be felt, compressed shredded metal or pieces of wire mesh with or without a mixture of textile fabric, or suitable lead alloys &c. In a modification constructed as a separate unit, rings 26, 27, Fig. 5, of sound-deadening material are secured with the outer race ring 4 in a shell 22 by bending a flange 25 over an end plate 28.
