755,126. Roller bearings. PITNER, A., and SOC. ANON. DES ROULEMENTS A AIGUILLES. March 3, 1954 [March 4, 1953; July 24, 1953], No. 6178/54. Class 12 (1). [Also in Groups XXII and XXIII] In a roller bearing, at least one of the races contains local raised portions in its circumference so as to reduce the radial play of the rollers as they pass over the raised portions. The undulations may be effected mechanically before the mounting of the bearing, after mounting, by externally applied forces, or by a combination of these means. The radial width between an undulation and the opposing race may be slightly less than the diameter of the rollers. The outer race may be deformed by screw means 38, 40, Fig. 7, or by pressure on lands 53, Fig. 9, produced by tightening a surrounding sleeve 54. Alternatively the ring may be deformed by fluid pressure. In a method of forming the undulations prior to mounting the bearing, the outer race is deformed and then ground circular.
