Stringed instruments, tail-pieces, tuning-pins, and bridges for.-An auxiliary tensioning-device is arranged to depress the string at a point between the bridge and the point of attachment. As shown applied to a violin, the tail-piece c carries a bracket a to which is attached a threaded rod d, slotted to take the string f. The string is tensioned by a nut e, which may carry a freely-turning ring h<1>. In a modification, the rod d is screwed into the soundboard.
