Abstract
257,116. Butcher, 0. S. Oct. 7, 1925. Violins etc; tuning- pins etc; tail-pieces.- Strings are secured to the tail-piece of a violin, banjo, &c. by tubular screws which are turned to effect the fine tuning. The strings so secured may be either the usual strings, or duplicate strings each threaded through the same peg as its main string, thus avoiding increasing the number of pegs and the size of the head while enabling a greater volume of sound to be produced. In the construction shown, main strings j are secured in lateral and kev-hole slots i, h, being guided by notches. or shoulders in a lip b on the tail-piece. Duplicate strings n are secured within tubular screws c which are turned for adjustment by their heads d, the screws being mounted in the lip b which may be bushed to receive them. To prevent twisting of the strings secured therein, the tubular screws are lined with sleeves having square heads g which by contacting with the surface of the tail-piece prevent the sleeves from turning. The tail-piece may be made of aluminium.
