Abstract
154,495. Bergius, W. Feb. 21, 1920. Screw propellers with folding blades are maintained in their operative position by an axiallysliding pin which engages in notches in the roots of the blades. The blades 2 are pivoted on a bolt 3 passing through the boss 1. Each blade is formed with a notch 6 which is engaged by a transverse pin 5 which may be moved axially. A cover 9 is movable axially on the boss 1 and is perforated at 10 to receive the ends of the pin 5. The cover is moved bv a sleeve 11 which is manually operated, and the pin 5 is normally pressed into engagement with the notches 6 by a spring 7. The propeller is intended for use with ships provided with auxiliary engines for running astern, and the blades open out into their operative positions by centrifugal force.
