Abstract

154,126. Owen, J. W., and Jones, W. H. April 16, 1920. Stopping way and steering by plates at side.- The apparatus comprises pivoted plates at the bows normally flush with the skin plating, but which when released move into sector-shaped recesses. The plates G hinged at H are normally held by catches, and when released move into the recesses B, the edge contacting with the arc walls E, thus preventing ingress of water behind the plates. For returning the plates, cables or chains I and quadrants J are employed. A drainpipe for the recess is fitted. The latches K may be withdrawn mechanically or electrically.
