Abstract

Rudders.-In apparatus for steering a ship by steering the ship's rudder into position, the auxiliary rudder may be protected from the action of waves by providing protecting surfaces a, b rigidly attached to the sides of the main rudder. More than one auxiliary rudder may be used in series as shown. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a rudder 1, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), provided with an auxiliary rudder 2 which is connected to the hull of the vessel by links 3, 4. The main rudder 1 is operated in anv usual manner and the auxiliary rudder automatically moves in the opposite direction so that the movement of the main rudder is facilitated. The links 3, 4 may be replaced by cables, toothed segments, and the like. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
