In a fishing vessel having a bow like stern 19 at, or in the region of, which one or more propellers 12 are located, and gallows 16, 17 at the side or sides of the vessel, lines 15 extend from the gallows past the bow 18 to a net so as to enable the latter to be towed by the vessel when proceeding astern. The bilge keel 29 extends to a point 28 aft of the aft gallows 17. To ensure substantially complete visibility in steering ahead and astern the wheelhouse 22 may have a pair of wheelstands 23, 24, one forward and one aft. A single wheelstand may be located on the side of the wheelhouse where the gallows operate when the latter are located on one side only, the funnel then being placed on the opposite side of the vessel.
