Abstract

1536831 Chamfering the ends of gear teeth HURTH VERWALTUNGS GmbH 11 Feb 1977 [29 April 1976] 05778/77 Heading B3K In a process for the machining the tooth ends of gear wheels, i.e. chamfer or deburring, the work gear 4 is mounted for rotation on the machine frame 1, and a rotatable meshing gear-cutter 6 mounted on the frame 1 is pivotally moved into meshing engagement with the work gear 4 and is driven in meshing engagement by the work gear thereby deburring or chamfering the gear, means being provided to sense incorrect engagement between the tool 6 and gear 4 as the tool approaches the gear and to turn the tool by a predetermined amount so as to permit engagement between them at the next approach. In the embodiment described the gears are mounted on a conveyer system on the frame 1 whereby gears are successively brought into a work station for machining by the tool 6. The means for effecting the rotary displacement of the cutting tool to ensure alignment between the meshing parts of the tool and work gear may be in the form of a ratchet, free-wheel or one way clutch 31, a switch 28 being operable in a loose-link device to sense and actuate a fluid pressure unit 24, 25 which operates the pivoting of the cutting tool 6 by way of a twoarmed support 15, 22, the step motion produced by the ratchet being effected upon the return motion of the tool from an operative to an inoperative position.
