Abstract

1534905 Powder compaction mill BRITISH STEEL CORP 3 June 1977 [3 June 1976] 22991/76 Heading B5A A compaction mill, e.g. for metallic powder, comprises rolls 2, 3, with their axes in a plane normal or inclined to the horizontal, to which the powder is fed from a hopper 7 and feed table 10; the powder is deposited on the lower roll adjacent the nip and the extent to which the uppermost roll is exposed to the powder is controlled by moving a shielding plate 16 towards or away from the nip. The feed table and shielding plate are vibrated and their movements relative the nip are controlled in dependence on the thickness and/or density on the green strip emerging from the mill or on the torque differential of the two rolls. Such control system includes, inter alia, a computer 22, thickness gauge 25 and density gauge 24.
