Abstract

1534565 Light guides GALILEO ELECTROOPTICS CORP 21 Feb 1976 06911/76 Heading G2J An optical imaging system which produces uneven magnification across an image comprises one or more tapered bundles 14, 52 of optical fibres, in which each fibre varies in diameter as a function of the distance along the optical axis of the bundle, one end-face of the bundle being shaped so as to intersect the individual fibres at varying distances along said optical axis; the image formed on the end surface of the bundle 14 or 52 is transmitted by a contiguous, coaxially positioned light-conducting element 16 to a planar surface thereof. The element 16 also comprises a bundle of optical fibres, which may be of constant or varying diameter. The interface between the bundles 14, 52, 16 may be of any curved configuration, e.g. spherical, or cylindrical.
