Abstract

1530586 Valves; seals DRESSER INDUSTRIES Inc 17 Oct 1975 [23 Dec 1974] 42755/75 Headings F2B and F2V A valve has a closure member 20 operated by a stem 36 which is isolated from a flow passage 12 by a stack of metal layers 46, 48 forming a diaphragm 30 with some layers being of different composition from others of the stack, there being means 56, 58 for supporting the diaphragm in the valve body. Preferably alternate layers of the diaphragm are of nickel chrome alloy and titanium alloy with modulic of elasticity of 30 x 10<6> and 16 x 10<6> p.s.i. respectively the former of 0À008-0À012 and the latter of 0À010 to 0À15 inch thick; the support including a resilient base 58 of treated graphite and a flexible flange 60. A similar flange (62) Fig. 9 (not shown) extends from a head 32 bearing against the diaphragm at the spindle end. At least the upper diaphragm layer may be slotted radially (50) Fig. 12 (not shown). To improve fluid flow around the closure the valve body is provided with apertures (78, 80), Fig. 2 (not shown) forming relief porting, this forming the subject matter of Specification 1,530,587.
