Abstract

1529934 Treating palm oil production effluent IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 8 Sept 1977 [30 Sept 1976] 40596/76 Heading C1C A method of treating effluents arising in the production of palm oil comprises the following steps:- (1) admixing the effluents and subjecting the mixed effluents to a flocculation process, (2) subjecting the effluents from the flocculation process to a flotation process, (3) removing the solids produced in the flotation process and dewatering the solids, (4) admixing the liquid produced in (3) with the liquid produced in (2), (5) adding nutrients to, and adjusting to between 7À0 and 8À0 the pH of, the admixed liquids, (6) subjecting the liquids produced in (5), at least once to a biological purification process followed by a solids separation process, (7) discharging the liquid produced in (6) to water course or public sewer, (8) admixing the sludge formed in the separation process in (6) optionally with the solids arising in the flotation process and dewatering them together, and (9) isolating and recovering the dewatered solids produced in (3).
