Abstract

1509997 Treating wastewater containing hydrocarbons H-T MANAGEMENT CO 22 April 1975 16565/75 Heading C1C [Also in Division B1] Domestic sewage containing hydrocarbon contaminations goes from a primary clarifier to a lime contact raising the pH to about 11 and removing phosphates and some biological sludge. It then flows at a temperature of at least 40‹F. to a vacuum stripping tower 12 where the hydrocarbons, ammonia and some water are removed as vapours through the vacuum pump. A countercurrent stripping gas may be introduced into the tower. Packing material 14 may be present in the tower. The effluent is recarbonated to a lower pH and the recovered lime recycled to the lime contact.
