Abstract

The water to be treated is conveyed (7, 8) into the upper part (2) of the stripping column (1) and then flows to the lower part thereof (3). Steam circulating counter to the water to be treated strips the methanol and, if present, the hydrocarbons contained therein. At the head of the column, a gaseous phase is discharged (5) based on water, methanol and, if present, hydrocarbons, which are condensed to form a liquid phase after separation of the hydrocarbons if present, said liquid phase is totally or partially discharged (17), the remaining part being recycled (23) in the water (7) to be treated, the discharged liquid phase consisting of an aqueous methanol solution. A purified water stream is extracted (6) from the bottom of the column. <IMAGE>
