Abstract

1521609 Anaerobic treatment of effluent WESTERN PACIFIC WATER TREATMENT CORP Ltd 20 Dec 1976 [7 Dec 1976] 53185/76 Headings C1C and C1B Effluent is treated by conducting the effluent through a screen to remove solids therefrom, conducting the screened effluent through a sand trap to remove fine particles therefrom, conducting the thus treated effluent to a retaining basin and adding appropriate chemicals, preferably lime, to bring the pH of the effluent to approximately 7, treating the neutralized effluent in an anaerobic digestor to break down pollutant materials and conducting the digested effluent to a sedimentation tank and separating sludge from purified water. The process may be used to treat effluent from a palm oil factory. The sludge produced may be used as a fertilizer and phosphates and nitrates may be added to the effluent prior to digestion to increase the fertilizer value of the resulting sludge. The purified water may be further treated for example by trickle filtration or activated sludge processes.
