1528375 Production of hydroquinone solutions VEBA-CHEMIE AG 2 Oct 1975 [2 Oct 1974] 40426/75 Heading C2C The invention relates to a process for the production of aqueous solutions of hydroquinone which are substantially free from phenolic and non-phenolic impurities which comprises extracting with water at a temperature from 50‹ C. to the boiling point of the resultant azeotrope a solution of the hydroquinone and of the phenolic and non-phenolic impurities in a ketonic solvent having 5 to 9 carbon atoms, the solvent being immiscible or substantially immiscible with water, whereby the hydroquinone dissolves in the aqueous phase and the phenolic and non-phenolic impurities remain in the ketonic phase.
