Abstract

1528044 Silencing IC engines BRITISH LEYLAND UK Ltd 8 July 1976 [18 July 1975] 30157/75 Heading F1B [Also in Division B7] A motor road vehicle features an engine 1 located within a duct 11 through which cooling air may flow, a heat exchanger 9 located at the leading end of the duct, and first and second sound attenuators 12, 13 positioned upstream and downstream of the engine respectively. Each attenuator 12, 13 comprises parallel planar members each made of a sound absorbing material. In a modification, Fig. 3b, (not shown) a cooling fan (8) driven by engine 1 is interposed between the engine and the attenuator 12. In another modification Fig. 4b, the engine is located in a further enclosure 14 the rear end of which is partly constructed or partly lined with sound deadening material.
