Abstract

1402633 Cooling I C engines J C BAMFORD EXCAVATORS Ltd 26 Jan 1973 [4 Feb 1972] 5285/72 Heading G1B [Also in Division B7] A cooling system of an engine 21 of a vehicle, e.g. an excavator (10) Fig. 1 (not shown), comprises a fan 22 driven by the engine and having its rotational axis horizontally in line with the engine, an upright radiator 23 and louvres 26 and a wall 25 which deflect the air-flow through the radiator from the fan into a substantially vertical direction prior to discharge from an outlet 27. The engine exhaust pipe 29 has its outlet 30 in the substantially vertical air-flow. The engine may include cooling surfaces over which the air is drawn from the inlet 20 at the bottom of the engine compartment 12 at the rear of the vehicle. An oil cooler 24 is located between the radiator 23 and the louvres 26.
