Abstract

1518607 Bumper LUCHAIRE SA 16 June 1976 [17 June 1975] 24900/76 Heading B7H A hollow bumper beam 1 mounted on the rear end of a vehicle 2 contains therein an antipollution device 5 such as an exhaust gas or engine inlet air, silencer system of the vehicle, which device 5 contributes by its mechanical strength to the effectiveness of the bumper. A baffle sheet 9 to welded at 10 to the beam 1 between two apertures 14, 15 in the beam and a baffle sheet 6 is fixed to the device 5 so that slots 8, 12 and 13 are formed which as the vehicle moves forward scoop in air to cool the device 8 and thereafter pass out of the apertures 14, 15. A modified bumper may be secured to the front end of the vehicle, the slots being rearranged so as to scoop in cooling air.
