Abstract
152,761. Timmons, J. S. July 18, 1919. Microphones and variable-resistance transmitters; head-sets.-A transmitter for use in noisy places is completely enclosed in a sound-proof casing and is operated by the muscular action of the operator when talking. The diaphragm is loaded to increase the inertia of the movable electrode, while the other electrode is rigidly connected to the casing. The cord is gripped by a tapered threaded gland, and one conductor is connected to the fixed electrode by soldering it to the casing. The receivers are enclosed in rubber caps mounted upon a helmet or head-band to which the strap carrying the transmitter is secured. The terminals of the head-set are connected to a plug coupling. Transmitter. A casing 2, Fig. 3, is provided with web-loops 4 and 5, a hollow chamber 6 containing the microphone, a threaded cover 7, and a tapered threaded gland 22, 23 through which the cord 21 passes. A metal disk 9 is placed between the carbon electrode 11 and the casing 2, and is held in position by a bush 10 which is insulated from the granules 20 by means of a paper lining 12. A diaphragm 13 is held between the bush 10 and a retaining ring 14 and carries an electrode 19 secured to a metal disk 15 provided with a thread shank 16. A weight 18 is secured to the diaphragm 13 by the shank 16 and a nut 17, thereby increasing the inertia of the movable electrode. Head set. The receivers R are enclosed in rubber caps r mounted upon a bead-band 26 or a helmet to which a strap 27 carrying the transmitter T is secured. The conductors of the head set are connected to one of the elements 30 of a plug coupling 30, 31.
