Abstract
1,177,925. Telephone headsets; resonators. AIRMED Ltd. 6 March, 1967 [11 March, 1966], No. 10924/66. Headings H4J and H4X. Two insulated wire springs forming the headband of a telephone headset pivotably support at their ends two ear-pieces, enabling angular adjustment of the ear-pieces to the wearer's head, and also provide electrical connection to an ear-piece on one side of the headset from terminals located at the other side. A pair of Helmholtz resonators within each earpiece amplify the sound from the ear-piece receivers. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3 a pair of spaced insulated wire springs forming the headband 12 support at their ends for angular movement two ear-pieces 1, 2 by means of lugs 14 which can slide on the wires and which are connected to the sides of each ear-piece by pairs of pins 14, 15. The telephone line is fed to terminals within the right-hand ear-piece 2 and is extended via the wire springs of the headband to the receiver of the left-hand ear-piece 1. A microphone boom 10 is supported for rotation by a ball-joint 11 on the right-hand ear-piece. The sound from each receiver is magnified by a pair of Helmholtz resonators (Fig. 3) comprising an inner cylindrical chamber 19 which communicates with an outer annular chamber 20 by holes 22. Further holes 23 in the annular chamber emit the sound. The back cover 7 of the left-hand earpiece is hinged to open and allow the wearer to hear external sounds. A pad 3 is provided for each earpiece.
