Abstract

1527165 Change-speed control; ratchet gearing; linkwork QUASAR MOTORCYCLES Ltd 26 Aug 1977 [26 Aug 1976] 35637/76 Headings F2D F2Q and F2K A linkage for changing gear in a motorcycle comprises a pedal assembly 11 having pads 23, 24, depression of pad 23 causing plates 22 to pivot about an axis 25, a pin 32 to engage a recess 30 of a plate 27 and further pressure on pad 23 pivots a lever 16 clockwise until the pedal assembly contacts a stop, the lever assembly and plate 27 pivoting about a shaft 12. Pressure on pad 24 pivots a plate 26, a pin 31 engaging a recess 29, to pivot lever 16 anticlockwise, the plates 22 being biased by a spring 33 so that the pin 31 normally engages a recess 29. Movement of lever 16 is transmitted to a cam plate 17 having a slot 42 guiding cam followers 18 to change ratio, four forward ratios and neutral. To change from first gear to fourth gear pad 23 is pressed three times. Downward changes are by pressing pad 24.
